Book Review: "Dogged Pursuit" by Robert Rodi

I gotted home from hikings yesterday to find the boy had lefted mails on the kitchen table for me! It was the book I wonned called "Dogged Pursuit" and it was pawtographed by Dusty hisself and his dad, Robert Rodi, who writed the book!

So wif today being a rainy, dreary day, I hunkered down in my hidey spot for some reading wif mom. We ended up reading all day until we finished the book.

The book is very funnee and mom and I LOL'd and BOL'd at almost every page. Sometimes we would has leaky eyes of joy for Dusty. It is so vividly writed that you gets exact pikshurs in your brane of wot is happening.

Agility or kompetishun does not has to be your thing to enjoy reading this book. This book hits home wif me coz it is bout a pore rescued doggie wot had a very bad start in life and had to werk with his hooman to overcome some ishoos, very similar to yours trooly.

So whether you is a dawg, kitteh, hooman or wotever, you will enjoy reading this book coz we rilly enjoyed it lots and are thankful for Dusty and his dad hasing sent it to us. I gives the book a 5 paw rating!

Norvin Green State Forest (Wanaque, NJ)

Wonnerful hikings today in Norvin Green State Forest We hiked 11.8 miles all uphill and downhill, uphill and downhill... But we gots to see some fablous seenik overlooks! This is wot most of the trails looked like with lots of rawks and boulders to climb over:

This is the trail wot we hiked in hawt pink and where you sees stars is the seenik overlooks:

This is one seenik overlook in particular wot I needs to point out to you. It is called Wyanokie High Point. When you is standing where I is in the pic below, you can sees 360 degrees around you. It is pawsome but you get dizzy turning around to see it all. Now look at the horizon a little to the left. Does you see little things sticking up over there? Does you noes wot that is? It is the New York City skyline 30 miles away!

These are some of the udder overlooks where we was:

Of course after all that hiking I needed to has some waters to drink:

Coz there wasn't much udder waters around axept this place:

We did not sees any otters. I donnot think there is enuf waters there for otters.

OK, now I has to admits, this skeered me and I thought there was dangers so I barkeded at it until I realized is was just a pile of rawks. But rilly, until I gotten close up, it looked skeery. (Mom even thoughted it was a wild animal from a distance so donnot laff at me.)

And sadly, the litterbugs had infested the Norvin Green State Forest. How sad that peeples leave their trash in a place so beeootiful. We pickeded up the litters and broughted it all home for resykling. Now there is no more litters in Norvin Green State Forest. The litterbugs should bees ashamed of theyselves.

Pee Ess. Lucy asked in the comments below, and this is a queshun I get asked lots, so I will write here how comes my sisses never go hiking with me. You see, Dixie used to up until this year. When Dixie was 1 year old she had heart surgery wot saved her life but they sayed she would only lives half a life but should not do anything strenuous. When she was still doing OK at half a life, the heart V-E-T told mom she had noffin to lose, to werk Dixie up to hiking. So for a few years, Dixie and I hiked together with mom and Dixie luved it and did grate. But suddenly this year, at age 10, Dixie started acting rilly old and slow and gets very tired after walkies of just 2 miles. So mom felted that sadly, hiking would be too much for Dixie now so she cannot does it any mores. *sob* Sydney never could go hiking. When we gotted her out of the shelter, she could only use 3 legs coz one hip was brokened and that leg atrofeed. So after surgery and physical therapy, Sydney can use her leg very well now but 2 mile walkies is all she can handle so hiking will never be in the cards for her. So during the week Dixie and Sydney get to go on 2 mile walkies in our park and neighborhood together since they is now pritty evenly matched wif stamina.

West River Trail (Jamaica State Park, VT to South Londonderry, VT)

Big exciting road trip yesterday to meet @RogerDog and @callmelou in Vermont for hiking! We drived 4 1/2 hours from New Jersey and metted at the Winhall Campground in South Londonderry, VT. We lefted our car there then all drived to Jamaica State Park in Roger and Lou's car. That way instead of seeing only half of VT and hasing to turn around to get back to the car, we could keep going and see ALL 12.75 miles of VT (well, the West River Trail that is) by hasing one car at either end! We is so glad we did that coz there was lots of fun things to see all along the trail.

We hiked the West River Trail but did a couple of exciting side trails also!

As soon as we gotted started, that silly Roger had to poo! There was no trash cans so Lou had to carry it wif her for the whole hike! Way to go, Roger!

First we taked a trail to a scenic overlook where we had some cookies that Lou bakeded speshul for us. Thanks, Lou, the cookies was nommy!

Then we hikeded up to the Hamilton Falls. Oh, it looked dangrus coz the sign sayed 10 lives lost from swimmings. Wot to do?

Once we gotted there we could see the lower pool was safe for us to go in (it was the big upper pool wot was dangrus) so we got this grate action shot of Roger spinning in circles in the waters!

None of the pikshurs of us dawgs in front of the waterfalls turned out so here is a pikshur of just the waterfalls. It is much bigger than what it looks like. They say it is 125 paws (peeple paws) high.

Then we gotted back on the trail and came to this big wall ahead of us. It was the Ball Mountain Dam and we had to go up the switchback to gets to the top to climb over! But first we hads to go in the West River for a swim coz it was going to be hot going up the dam in the sunbeams wif no trees for shades!

Here you can gets a good idea of how high up we is on the dam when you sees the other peeples wot is going down. Yikes!

Look, Roger, those waters down there is where we was swimming just afore we started climbing!

Almost to the top...

Ta da! We made it! This is the West River waters on the udder sides of the dam.

After we got over the dam, we had to walk along a road for a bit and rite before it was time to hook up wif the hiking trail again, we sawed this gazeebo by the road where we could rest a minute. It was cool under the rufe in the shades and there was a loverly view. We had more cookies while we rested.

Then we walked thru some pritty forests...

And saw anudder waterfalls...

Then along the West River again...

At the end of the hike when we was back at the campground, we taked a group shot wif the timer thingie on the camera wot mom not knowed how to werk but she figgered it out enuf.

Then we all gotted in my car and drived back to Jamaica State Park to take Roger and Lou back to their car.

Vermont was the most beeootiful state I has ever been to and it was so wonnerful meeting Roger and Lou and hasing such a fun hike! But there is a few things you should knowes if'n you goes to visit Vermont. There is only one gas station and we was luckee nuff to has found it in the nick of time.

On the udder paw, we did almost runned out of gas in front of this place and that mite has been funs.

And be very shore if'n you goes to Vermont to has your mom or dad takes your rabies certificate along. In fact, prolly not a bad idea to keep if wif you always anyways. I told mom she has to does that now. At the park they needed to see prufe of rabies and we was luckee they accepted Roger's rabies tag and my NJ dawg license on our collars. Mom splained to them you has to show prufe of rabies to get the license, that is why I has no rabies tag on, and then they sayed OK, I could goes into the park. Whew!

So here we is leaving to goes back home following Roger and Lou to the highway. The sun was alreddy going away and it was going to be dark soon. Bye Roger and Lou. I is so glad I gots to meets you and I hads such a grate time! Here is Lou's blog about our hike!

Pee Ess: Thank you, Lou for sending sum of your homemade cookies home wif me for my sisses and for foster dog Buttons!
