Apshawa Preserve (West Milford, NJ)

Today we hiked 7.7 miles in Apshawa Preserve. We had to go today instead of tomorrow like we woz planning on coz the wevver peeples changed their minds again and is now saying rains tomorrow. Today woz beeootifuls tho.

We seened some waters through the trees. It woz Butler Reservoir. We hiked at a Butler Reservoir a cuppul of weeks ago but it was a differnt one.

But the closer we gotted to the reservoir, the louder these noises gotted.

BRRRRRRRRRRRT BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT BRRRRRRRRRRRRT BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT - Wot is that? OMD! It was peeples walking on top of the frozened waters and they woz cutting holes in the ice with powah tools! They was gitting reddy to goes ice fishing!

We hiked around a pond too but there woz no peeple fishing on top of the frozened waters there (but we could still hear the peeples over on the reservoir coz they woz rilly lowd!)

And we had some pritty senik overlooks.

And we sawed a beeootiful waterfall

I figgered I had better put my paws in to wash them off so mom would not get any ideers bout gibbin me a baf like she did last week.

Whew, mom said my paws passed mud inspekshuns when we gotted to the car!

Lewis Morris County Park (Morristown, NJ)

Today was a howliday and mom did not has to werk so of course, we wented hiking! It rained all day yesterday so the criteria woz a park wot woz hopefully not too muddy, pritty close to our house and one wot has no hunting since it is a Monday and just about every park has huntings on Mondays. Lewis Morris County Park woz only half an hour away and they hads no hunting today so off we wented. It woz nottin speshul, no seenik overlooks or kewl historikal stuffs (there is lots of history there but we did not sees any) but it woz a nice hike, we woz the only ones there and the wevver gotted up to 50 degrees. We managed to make a 6.8 mile hike out of it even though the park is not all that big. So here is some pikshurs, like I said, nottin speshul:

The only thing woz that the park woz very muddy! Gess with all the rains we had yesterday that woz to be expected.

When we gotted back to the car, mom sayed we had a pwoblem. I donnot sees a pwoblem, does you? So wot is a little mud? It dries and falls off, rite? Not to menshun it blends in very well wif my blond furs.

Mom tried to clean me up with towels she keeps in the car just for okashuns like that but she woz not hasing much luck. The mud woz smearing all over and she maded a bigger mess. I tried to tell her it woz no big deal but she would not lissen. Well, isn't I the luckiest dawg to has my very own grooming tub in my basement? NOT! I put on my most pawthetic pouty face and would not look at mom even when she gibbed me kisses.

Pawdon me now please while I lay unner the blow dryer in my hidey spot and ponder how to prevent this humiliashuns in the future.

Walkway Over the Hudson/Franny Reese State Park (Poughkeepsie, NY/Highland, NY)

Eggsiting hikings today in a PARK IN THE SKY wot is called Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park. It used to be a bridge for the choo choo trains in the olden days but they maded it into a park in October 2009 so peeples and dawgs could go over it. But first we wented to Franny Reese State Park and hiked there on our way to the park in the sky.

From the trails in the Franny Reese Park we gotted a preview of the bridge wot we woz going to be on way back ahind the trees:

We passed some old broken howses. We woz able to find the whole story bout them online right here. Is very interesting to read but in a nutshell, the man wot owned the houses woz a dentist. In the olden days they did not gives you anything for pains but this dentist invented drugs to take the owies away and he maded a gabillion monies. But then his chilluns put the bitey on each udder over his monies when he woz ded, all of the monies gotted used up and nobody taked care of the houses any mores so they gotted brokened.

So then we camed to a tunnel under the Mid-Hudson bridge - not the bridge we woz going up on, a diffrent one.

And on the udder side of the tunnel - Oh noes! Houston, we has a pwoblem!

(Those of you who knows me knows I is SKEERED TO DEATH of stairs!)
But mom sayed if'n I did not go up the stairs, we could not go to the park in the sky so I gibbed it my best shot.

And yay! I maded it! (We just won't menshun the fact that at the end I ranned up so fast I almost maded mom fall flat on hers face.)

At the top of the stair woz a little memorial park for these two soldiers wot had died in the war. That bridge in the background is that Mid-Hudson one again, not the one we is going on.

And finally, ta da, here we is!

This bridge is 1.25 miles long across the Hudson river wot woz full of ice! Here I is in the middle, way up in the sky!

Then a nice man asked if'n we would like for him to take my pikshur wif my mom wif our camera:

There is a coast guard boat in the river so I suppose if'n you falled off into the waters they would catch you. Doesn't it look like a toy boat? But it woz a big for real boat, for real!

And remember that Franny Reese Park where we comed from? That is the dark mountain on the right in this picture just behind that Mid-Hudson bridge wot we is not going on.

Click here for some rilly kewl pikshurs of the bridge from the olden days and from when it woz brokened and they woz making it into the park in the sky.

So we turned around at the udder side of the bridge and wented back the way we camed, back to our car in Franny Reese Park. We hiked 8.7 miles today. But if'n you goes and just want to do the park in the sky, it is only 1.25 miles each way. We saw rilly old peeples with walkers and canes, little chilluns (and they all wanted to stop and pet me so we woz on the bridge for forever), peeples on bicycles, roller blades, skate boards, even a gurl with a brokened foot on crutches... so anybody can do it. Check out this guy on the left, he must has losted a wheel on his bicycle coz he was riding across the sky with only one wheel!

And it is not skeery at all. Take it from me wot is skeered of stairs. This park in the sky did not creep me out at all coz it is rilly big and just like being on solid grounds.

Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area (Boonton, NJ)

We did it! We maded it to the rite hike today at Pyramid Mountain. And the parking lot woz opened this morning so I did not has to worry bout mom parking in anudder lot and getting us on the rong trail!

I woz very eggsited about hiking in this park coz there is lots of interesting things to see. I has nummered them on the map so you can see where they is at as I shows you the pikshurs.

This is me going up Pyramid mountain. Mom had to wear her Yaktrax coz it woz slickery going up. But my paws werk just fine on slickery mountains.

And here I is at the top of Pyramid Mountain enjoying the seenik overlook:

Here I is hiking up the rawks to Lucy's Overlook. Lucy woz a laydee who saved the park from peeples who wanted to tear it up and build stuffs so the overlook woz named after her.

And here is wot it looks like from the top.

This is my fave. Tripod Rawk is a 160 ton rawk wot sits atop three littler rawks. It could has fallened on me and squished me! No, not rilly. It is too hebby to be pushed over but I donnot knows how it stay atop of those teeny rawks.

I is kinda blocking the 3 little rawks so I shows you a pikshur without me in it. It is so very kewl. This rawk is supposed to bees famus.

I dunno why this is called Bear Rawk. It does not look like a bear. Mebbe coz it is so humungus. Don't I look teeny tiny next to it? I readed that this woz sposed to be the biggest rawk in Noo Jersey but it splitted in half not very long ago so it used to bees even bigger!

OK, I can sees where this mite looke like a whale hed but I think more like a turtle hed, no?

But we did not see no eaguls.

The reservoir is all frozened with ice.

Then we woz back at the parking lot and crossed over the street to go to Turkey Mountain!

We dinnot count the rawk steps but we believe them when they says there be 100 of them.

This is wot it looked like at the top of the 100 steps.

We has seen much better but they is werthy of a pikshur since they is menshuned on the map.

We Googled to see if'n anybody noes wot this is but cannot find anything. Looks like mebbe a howse somebody lived in a gabillion years ago in the olden days?

This is the inside. It has a fireplace and is that a tabul builded into the middle?

So it was a very kewl hike wot woz 9.75 miles long. With the wrong hike from yesterday of 8.7 miles, wow, I think I might needs to nap in my hidey spot until next weekend!
