More Fall Foliage Hiking

So on Saturday we went hiking in the Harriman State Park in Noo York.  That be the bestest place to hike during huntin' season coz this park do be 46,000 acres big and there nefur be any huntin allowed efur.  Butt, we had to watch fur sumpin else while hiking there and furrends, hold on to your leashes coz this do be way skeery!
You see that poster at the beginning of the trail?  It do be a WANTED poster.  That man shoosted his daughter-in-law dead then escaped into the park and be hiding out!  The pawlice had search pawties and search dogs and helly-copters looking fur him and the whole park was closed fur a while but they nefur did find him.  The park do be opened again so I told mom no worries, I be on full alert while there.  You can read all about wot happened with the shoosting here.
Me on full alert in Harriman Park.
WHO GOES THERE?  Oh, it just be some udder hikers and their two dogs.  Us dogs all played fur a bit.  Fun times.
The coast do be clear.  Climb on up, mom.
Leading the way to....
Seeniks!
Hmmm... I think those tracking dogs did miss some suspicious sniffs here.
So on we went...
... thru the Elbow Brush (can you guess why it be named that?  And yes, mom got stuck AGAIN.)
Careful along these rawks and caves and stuffs coz murderers and outlaws could be hiding in here.  Just like...
... here in that old timey Claudius Smith, the outlaw's den!  But that do not be the murder suspect or Claudius Smith.
That just be a bunch of childrens camping with their dads.  But it would be a great cover, no?  Who would suspect, eggsept fur me - I would know.
Here be wot it looks like atop that Claudius Smith's cave.  This be where the outlaws watched to see if'n the sheriff be coming.  I wonner if'n that murder suspect watched the tracking dogs from up here?
I founded myself a nice cammo spot fur my powah nap (after I had my chicken jerky, of course).
If'n I did not has my orange collah on, you would not be able to see me.  I think they sayed that murdering suspect had a cammo hat on.  No wonner they cannot find him.
All filled back up with energies, we is on our way again.
Here be a lake but I did not get my furs wet coz it be a little nippy out today.
So I just stayed on the trail.  And went through a puddle or two.

Fall Foliage Hiking Slacker

Hi furrends!  Sorry I has not been around.  I has not been slacking on hiking, I has been slacking on blogging about hiking (and visiting your bloggies) and this do not be a good time fur slacking coz it be bootiful here with the leaves all colored and stuffs.  So I is going to try to catch up and come around and visit all of YOU!

Last week I went to the mountains in the Catskills fur some leaf peeping coz their leaves woz better than ours being in the mountains and stuffs.
We went by this cabin where artists can come and stay to get inspawration fur their artwerks in the mountains.
From the cabin we went down, down, down into the canyon to the ...
Falling Waters!  (I has my no-huntin-me collah AND bandanner on coz there could has been hunters around but we nefur seened any.  Mom had my no-huntin-me vest in her backpack just in case we needed more no-huntin-me stuffs on me but we was good.)
We signed the trail register - I had mom sign us in as "1 peeple and 1 dog".
Then we crossed this snazzy bridge ofur the creek.
And we found this old quarry in the woods where peeples made FURniture out of the rawks.  Not furry comfy.

We climbed back up to the top of the mountain but OMD, why is we in a cloud?  Where do the seeniks be?
I did find anudder old quarry but no seeniks so we will has to come by here later to see if'n that cloud be gone off the mountaintop.
In the meantime, we went down to Echo Lake fur some CHIKEN JERKY!  And I is here to tell you Echo Lake do be called Echo Lake fur a reason.  I woofed like this:  WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF and it commed back at me like WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOf WOof Woof woof ... w o o f... w  o  o  f ...... w   o   o   f.....  Fur real!
Then I needed a powah nap.
Then we climbed back up to the mountaintop...
... and I found this ginormous rawk teetering on the edge of the mountain!
Skooze me?  Do there be cars up on this mountain or sumpin? Oh, that must be from the olden days when cars drived up to...
... the Overlook Mountain House afore it was all brokened.
It do be looking like a stuffie with no guts now.
We went on up to the top of Overlook Mountain but as you can see, furrends, that cloud do be ofur this mountain, too.  There be a fire towah here and a cabin with infurmations.  Mom tied me to a picnic bench like a common dog while she went into the cabin to see infurmations.  I did get lots of skritches from udder hikers while mom woz in that cabin so I can't complain.  Too much.  Dogs is allowed off leash in the Catskills so being tied to a bench was sooooo wrong. :(
So we started back down the mountain and I snootered out a side trail to a ledge with seeniks unner the cloud - check it out...
Ta da!  That be the Hudson River Valley unner the big cloud.
Then on our way back we stopped at that udder seenik wot was unner a cloud afore and it the cloud was gone so some peeples at the seenik taked our picture.
Wowser!  Lots of pritty leaves all the way back to our car!

Pre-Howloween Hiking

Furst off, furrends, I has to tell you that I hads to put the super sekrit squiggly werd sekurity thingie back on my comments.  I is getting rilly tired of being on guard fur spammers all the time and some breached sekurity and got on my bloggie.  When I went to put the bitey on them, I accidentally deleted ALL of the comments from my last two posts.  BOOOOOOOO!  I is soooo sad and soooo sorry I accidentally put the bitey on my furrends' comments.  I did not mean to.

So on this last weekend's hike, I went to scout out a reservoir to see if'n it be appawpriate fur my annual Howloween Hike coz it do be called "The Bermuda Triangle of New Jersey" coz 6 peeps has gone missing in the reservoir, nefur to be seened again.  But I tell you more about that on Howloween.
As I was leading the way along the ball field, I looked to my left and seened...
... a bootiful sunrise and a...
hawt air balloon!
We went through old farm fields...
... heading to that mountain ofur there coz the "Bermuda Triangle of New Jersey" do be on the udder side of that mountain.
OK, I is at the mountain now and we be climbing up...
... and up...
... and up.  I think I can see it now.
Ta da!  But that be too far away.  I has to get closer.  You know to wet my furs and stuff.
Common mom, let's go find a way down there.
I found it!  This way!
See, I knew there be a way!

OK, enuff exploring of the Bermuda Triangle.  Back up the mountain we go!
We found this old road to a nice spot fur our break where we could watch the Bermuda Triangle from the safety of the mountain.
Yup, this be a good spot.
See, not so skeery from up here.
OMD, mom rememmered my chicken jerky this time, yay!
Now I can has my powah nap.
So stay tooned fur Howloween - I hopes the weather behaves so we can come back and gibs you the full tour.  Be there and be skeered!
