Shawnee's Last Hike

SHAWNEE ♥ 3/1/2001 - 8/1/2017

Shawnee's mom here to let you know, with the heaviest broken heart, that I had to let Shawnee be released from her failing body.  She was 16 years and 5 months old.  She started out in the Newark, NJ shelter as a feral puppy with no hope for a future and became the most loyal and trustworthy companion anyone could hope for.  She will be missed always.  Thank you all for being her friend and following her journey.

Here is my hiking blog post of her last hike on the way to the vet's office.

  4. I am crying now to hear the sad news her time has come. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I have followed you both for years and my day was always brightened by receiving an email alert of a new entry (Gone Hikin' recently too!). I am very grateful to have found you and been able to share in your adventures and your love for each other and the outdoors all this time.

What a blessing that you and Shawnee found each other. To have shared the special kindred soul mate human/doggy love I saw in every entry. Gone from the earth but not gone from the heart.

    Sending healing thoughts your way.

  5. Our hearts are broken for you. Every time lately that we have seen a post pop up in our Reader, we worried that it would be this one. We loved Shawnee too and so enjoyed all her hikes with you. You and she were also always so good to stop by our blog for a visit. We are really going to miss going on the trails with you and your faithful friend. Soft woos and gentle hugs from all of us. We are already envisioning Shawnee at the head of a big hike over the Rainbow Bridge with our Angels, Dakota, Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara following behind.

  21. Hi Shawnee - It be me, Lexi da Shih Tzu. I heard that you be crossing the Rainbow Bridge - Mom still tells me things and her eyes were leakin' with this one. I hope I can meet you now. Maybe I can show you some of the nice sneeniks we have up here. Mom used to love seeing all the beautiful sneeniks from your hikes that you and your Mom shared on your blog. My Mom sends her thoughts to your Mom during this sad time.
